The search for a child murderer drags a once-respected detective into an all-consuming obsession.
イギリスの一流学園の生徒4人が突然失踪するが、18日後、そのうちの1人、リズだけが憔悴した姿で帰還する。彼女は学園中の女子生徒の憧れの的である男子生徒マイクと、その親友のジェフ、それにフランキーというクラスメイト3人とともに、近くにある防空壕跡の秘密の“穴”に閉じこもり、ちょっとした週末のパーティーを楽しんでいた、と証言する。ところがその話の裏には、彼女の切なくも痛ましい乙女心が隠されていて……。
