When Sara, a young design student from Iowa, arrives for college in Los Angeles, she is eager to fit in and get to know the big city. ある日、エリックの家の隣に新しい住人が引っ越してきた。その家の子供デクスターはHIV感染者だという。始めは戸惑い、敬遠していたエリックだったが、やがてデクスターと心が通い合い、友情が芽生えてきた。そしてエリックは“彼の治療法を見つける”とデクスターを連れてあてどのない旅に出掛けるが……。
