Some of the boys from South Park Elementary find themselves on a balloon ride to an imaginary land. Upon their arrival they're faced with an unimaginable threat.

フィラルデフィア。一方は、大会社の経営陣のひとりとして手腕を見せるエリートで金持ち青年ルイス・ウィンソープ。もう一方は、サギまがいの事をやりながら生きている貧しい黒人青年ビリー・バレンタイン。そんな彼らの知らない所で、ウィンソープの会社の会長である2人組が、ある賭けを企んでいた。この2人の環境を入れ換えるとどうなるかという賭けである。そして、何にも知らない二人はお互いの環境が入れ替わってしまう。

時は1872年、まだ飛行機も出現していない時代。イギリスはロンドンの社交クラブで、英国紳士フォッグ氏はひょんなことから“８０日間あれば世界一周できる”という賭けにのり、なんと２万ポンドという大金を賭け、自ら大冒険に出ることになる。さっそくフォッグ氏はパスパルトゥーを従者に従えロンドンを出発する。マルセイユへ向かう途中、汽車が止まってしまい気球を調達して先を急ぐ。ところが気球は風に流されてスペインへ。そして、パスパルトゥーはそこで、闘牛をするハメになってしまう。

言語学が専門のヒギンズ教授は、同好の士であるピカリング大佐と言葉遣いについて議論した末に、ロンドンのきつい下町なまりで花を売り歩く娘イライザを、自分なら上品なレディに仕立て直してみせると豪語。かくしてその成否をめぐって大佐と賭けをしたヒギンズ教授は、早速イライザを相手に、なまりの矯正や礼儀作法のレッスンを開始。特訓の成果が実り、やがて見事一流のレディに変身した彼女は、社交界の花形となる。

前夫である編集長の思惑で、死刑が予定されている囚人の取材をすることになった女性新聞記者ヒルディ。次第に記者魂に火がついてしまい……。ケイリー・グラント、ロザリンド・ラッセルの顔合わせによる都会派コメディ。
