マーチング・ドラマーとして天才的な才能を持っていたデヴォンは、A&T大学マーチング・バンド部の監督にスカウトされる。マーチング・バンドとは、スポーツ競技のハーフタイム12分の間において、演奏とパフォーマンスで観客を楽しませる、総合エンターテイメントだ。A&T大学は今年も"名誉と青春"を賭けた優勝決定戦を控えていた。デヴォンは天才的なテクニックで周囲を圧倒するが、彼の言動や勝手な行動が、やがてメンバーや監督との軋轢を生んでいく…。
