It's 1906. Under the dark sky of an Apocalypse, a young couple's nightly rituals are disrupted by a mysterious woman burying her husband by the stream.
貨物港でクレーンのオペレーターを勤めるレイ・フェリエは離婚して一人暮らししていた。離婚した妻がボストンの実家を訪ねる間、妻が引き取った子供、ロビーとレイチェルを預かったが彼らと打ち解けられずにいた。ある日の朝、稲妻が数十回も町の同じ場所に落ちると町中が停電し不気味な雲に覆われる中、レイは野次馬たちとともに落雷場所を見にいくと地中から巨大な機械が出現しレーザー光線で次々に人々を殺害し町を破壊してゆく。
