他人の夢に潜入してアイデアを盗み出す企業スパイのコブは国際指名手配犯であるが、それと同時に妻モルを殺した容疑もかけられていた。そんな彼に日本人男性サイトーからある依頼が。それはこれまでのように思考を盗み出すのではなく、標的にした人物の潜在意識に、あるアイデアを移植する“インセプション”という仕事だった。コブはサイトーを含むスペシャリスト6人を集め、標的の男性ロバートの夢に潜入しようとする。
