The personalities behind the creation of the world's first atomic bomb were as extraordinary, and often as explosive, as the science they were working in. This is the inside-the-barbed-wire story of the men and women who worked on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos. Through first-hand accounts and never-before-seen interviews, this documentary looks inside the atomic insiders' hearts and minds, their triumphs and failures, their bravery in the face of paralyzing fear and, ultimately, their war-winning and world-changing accomplishments.
1988年、関東地区に新型爆弾が使用され、第3次世界大戦が勃発した――。2019年、ネオ東京。金田をリーダーとするバイクの一団は進入禁止の高速道を疾走していた。しかし、先頭にいた島鉄雄は突然視界に入った奇妙な小男をよけきれずに転倒、負傷する。小男と鉄雄は直ちに現れたアーミーのヘリに収容され飛び去ってしまった。翌日、鉄雄を捜す金田は、少女ケイと出会う。彼女は反政府ゲリラの一員で“アキラ”という存在を追っていた。その頃、鉄雄はアーミーのラボで強力なクスリを連続投与され、不思議な力を覚醒し始めていた…。
ボンドは中南米某国のトロ将軍に変装し、将軍が管理する高性能偵察機を破壊すべく侵入する。本物の将軍に見つかり一旦は拘束されるが、CIA女性アシスタントのビアンカの誘惑で敵兵を惑した隙に超小型ジェット機（通称：アクロスター）で逃走。地対空ミサイルに追尾されるものの、前述の偵察機の格納庫内をすり抜けた直後にミサイルが格納庫を直撃、結果的に任務に成功する。 その頃、東ベルリンでピエロに成りすましサーカス団に潜入していた009は『レディーの卵（ファベルジュの卵）』（ロシア皇帝献上品）を持ち出したのを見つかり、投擲ナイフを特技とする双子の兄弟ミーシカとグリーシカにやられ、ベルリン英国大使館公邸に『卵』を持ち込み死亡する。
第四次中東戦争の最中、イスラエル空軍に所属する1機のA-4が戦術核爆弾を搭載して基地を離陸するが、飛行中にアラブ連合軍の2K12地対空ミサイルによって撃墜される。パイロットは死亡し、機体も空中で大破するが、搭載されていた戦術核は原形を留めたまま砂漠の砂中に埋もれてゆく。
それから月日は流れ、ロシアで前大統領が急死しチェチェン紛争に関して強硬姿勢も辞さない新大統領ネメロフが就任し、米ロ両国の緊迫した関係を改善するため米国はCIAの長官キャボットとその補佐のジャック・ライアンをロシアに派遣する。しかし、両国の間で生じた相互の不信はぬぐえず、これを利用したネオナチやKKKを中心とした勢力が戦争を起こそうと策動を始めた。
タヒチ沖で海難事故が続発する一方、パナマの丘陵地帯で巨大な足跡が発見される。調査にあたった生物学者ニックは、これが核実験の影響で誕生した新種の巨大生物ではないかと推測。長雨に曝されていたニューヨークへ突如、その生物－ゴジラ－が現れた。ニックはこの巨大生物がマンハッタンに巣を作ろうとしている事を突き止める。
原水爆実験の影響で、大戸島の伝説の怪獣ゴジラが復活し、東京に上陸。帝都は蹂躙され廃墟と化した。ゴジラ抹殺の手段はあるのか・・・。戦後の日本映画界に特撮怪獣映画というジャンルを築いた、記念すべきゴジラ映画第1作。核の恐怖を描いた、本多猪四郎の真摯な本編ドラマと、円谷英二のリアリズム溢れる特撮演出が絶妙のコンビネーションを見せ、「ゴジラ」の名を一躍世界に轟かせた傑作。
映像化不可能といわれたフランク・ハーバートの大長編SF小説を、前作「エレファント・マン」で成功をおさめた鬼才デビッド・リンチ監督・脚本により映画化。“デューン”と呼ばれる砂の惑星アラキスを舞台に繰り広げられる勢力争いを壮大なスケールで描く。後にテレビ放映用にナレーションと未公開シーンを加えた長尺版も製作されており、日本では「デューン／スーパープレミアム［砂の惑星・特別篇］」というタイトルで紹介されている。（映画.com）
1945年8月30日、GHQ最高司令官ダグラス・マッカーサーが日本に上陸し、アメリカによる本格的な日本統治が始まる。マッカーサーは戦争犯罪人の一斉検挙とその戦争犯罪を裁くため、活動を開始する。折からアメリカ本国では、天皇の訴追を求める声が政府にも国民世論にも多数を占めていた。その一方、極東における「反共の防波堤」建設を重要視し、また後年の政界進出、大統領選出馬をにらむマッカーサーにとっては、日本の戦後統治で成功を収めることが是が非でも必要あり、その観点から天皇を逮捕処刑することによる日本国民の反発を避けたいと彼は考えていた。マッカーサーは日本の開戦、真珠湾攻撃の意志決定に天皇の関与が決定的影響を及ぼしたのか否か、部下に調査を命じる。
