アイルランドの小さな町で、厳格な母親、憧れの姉とともに暮らすエイリシュ。町の食料品店で意地悪な女性店主にこき使われ、息苦しい毎日を送っていた彼女は、優しい姉の力添えを得て、単身アメリカのNYへと渡り、新たな生活をスタートすることに。当初は異郷での生活になかなかなじめず、ホームシックを募らせるエイリシュだったが、やがてダンスパーティーで知り合ったトニーという恋人もでき、明るさと元気を取り戻していく。

ジェンは友人5人とともにバージニア州の小さな町レンウッドを訪れた。アパラチア山脈の自然歩道でキャンプを楽しむためだ。自然歩道を満喫する一行だったが、好奇心からコースを外れて森の奥に入っていき、迷子になってしまう。仲間内で言い争いになりかけたその時、突如倒木が山上から転がり落ちてきて、一人が頭を潰され死んでしまう。気がつけば周囲は罠だらけ。彼らは“森”に囚われてしまったのだ。6週間後、消息を絶ったジェンを探しに父親スコットがレンウッドにやってくる。そこで彼が見たものとは……。

前作から数年後、大戦が世界各地で勃発し文明は衰退し世界は貧困と荒廃が進んでいた。復讐を遂げたものの虚無感に囚われ荒野を目的もなく走り続けるマックス。ある日捕らえた男ジャイロキャプテンより今も稼動し続けガソリンが取り放題の石油精製所があると聞かされる。しかしそこにはガソリンを独占しようとするヒューマンガス率いる暴走族集団と精製所に立てこもる市民が日々攻防戦を繰り返していた。　なんとか精製所にもぐりこんだマックス。中の市民は豊富なガソリンを持って脱出をしたいがガソリンタンクを牽引する車を持って来ればガソリンを好きなだけ渡すという取引を行う。群がる凶悪暴走族の中、マックスは一人で突破を試みるが・・
