Juke Girl (1942)

無謀な映画監督が冒険映画撮影のため、幻の孤島へ向かう。そこで彼らを待ち受けていたのは、巨大なキング・コングだった。1933年製作の特撮映画の金字塔を、ピーター・ジャクソン監督がリメイクしたアドヴェンチャー作品。

収穫祭の賞品として農場主アーサーにもらわれた子ブタのベイブ。牧羊犬の母犬フライはベイブに農場のルールを教えた上、自分の子供たちと同じようにベイブを可愛がってくれる。

大恐慌中の1935年。コールドマウンテン刑務所にあり、処刑室に続く通路があせた緑色であるため、“グリーンマイル”と呼ばれる死刑囚専用棟に殺人犯コーフィが収監される。だが、幼女惨殺の罪状とは裏腹に、コーフィは素晴らしい力を持っていた。彼は看守長ポールの重度の尿路感染症を治癒し、残忍な看守パーシーに踏み殺されたネズミをよみがえらせる。奇跡を目の当たりにしたポールはコーフィが本当に殺人犯なのか疑いだす。

1931年、大恐慌のさなかのシカゴ。アイルランド系マフィアのボス、ジョンから厚い信頼を得る腹心の幹部マイケル。ところが、それを妬ましく思うジョンの不肖の息子コナーは、マイケルの妻と次男を殺害する。長男にも危害が及ぶのを恐れるマイケルは、彼を連れて逃避行を続けながら復讐の機会をうかがう。一方、ジョンは思わぬ事態に驚くが、我が子かわいさのあまり、やむなくマイケル父子に殺し屋のマグワイアを差し向ける。

The story concerns the funeral of one of three brothers in a family of gangsters that lived in New York in 1930s. Details of the past of the brothers and their families are shown through a series of flashbacks.

Successful movie director John L. Sullivan, convinced he won't be able to film his ambitious masterpiece until he has suffered, dons a hobo disguise and sets off on a journey, aiming to "know trouble" first-hand. The Morgans, a loving and strong family of Black sharecroppers in Louisiana in 1933, face a serious family crisis when the husband and father, Nathan Lee Morgan, is convicted of a petty crime and sent to a prison camp. After some weeks or months, the wife and mother, Rebecca Morgan, sends the oldest son, who is about 11 years old, to visit his father at the camp. The trip becomes something of an odyssey for the boy. During the journey he stays a little while with a dedicated Black schoolteacher.

Eugene, a young teenage Jewish boy, recalls his memoirs of his time as an adolescent youth. He lives with his parents, his aunt, two cousins, and his brother, Stanley, whom he looks up to and admires.
