The author's grandparents were Aromanians, a Balkan minority of nomadic shepherds, without territory and written language, wandering between mountains and seas. Their story is told from the subjective point of view of the artist, who passionately reproduces in staged scenes this perpetual tragic wandering, also full of hope and courage to live.
歴史学者ベンのもとに古美術商のウィルキンソンが訪れる。彼がベンに見せたのはリンカーン大統領暗殺事件の犯人ジョン・ウィルクス・ブースの日記の失われた18ページだった。そこにはベンの祖先が暗殺事件に関与していたという記録が残っていた。ベンは、歴史的な遺産に隠された数々の暗号を解読しながら、一族にきせられた汚名を晴らすべく真相の究明に奔走する。

The story is set at the beginning of the 20th century in Sicily. Salvatore, a very poor farmer, and a widower, decides to emigrate to the US with all his family, including his old mother. Before they embark, they meet Lucy. She is supposed to be a British lady and wants to come back to the States.
