運河の工事中、水門の底から若く美しい女性の全裸死体が発見された。捜査にあたったベックたちは、その女性がロゼアンナというアメリカ人観光客であるという事、エンジンの故障で運河に停泊中だった観光船に彼女が乗っていた事を突き止める。おそらく船上で殺され水門に投げ込まれたのだろう。そして容疑者は、船客の撮影した８ミリに写っていたひとりの男に絞られた。男の化けの皮を剥ぐためにベックは婦人警官を使った囮捜査を準備する。だがそれは、普段は几帳面で温厚な男の本性を暴くためというには、あまりにも危険な手段であった……。

When the war breaks out, Annika lives with her parents in Värmland, close to the border to Norway. Her cousin Harald is a dealer in the black market but has to escape from the police to Norway. Annika moves to Stockholm and gets a job as a waitress. She meets the happy-go-lucky Berit and together they have a wonderful time. She also meets a young man, Bengt, whom she marries. It is the first day of the summer vacation. Jojje, Jerker and Fabian wants to borrow a sailing boat to take a boat trip so they steal it. They plan to examine all of Lake Maelaren, but a storm breaks out and the boat sinks. They go ashore, steal food and a new boat. While everybody else believes them to be dead, they have a wonderful time. They meet a crazy Count and find a dead body.

In 1944, Cederqvist comes to a small cloth factory to see how the all-women employees can work more efficiently. At the beginning he is greeted with suspicion and his efforts at courting the young ladies are futile. Meanwhile, Arne and Gunnar are busily conversing with women. Eventually the friends all leave with lady friends in tow, and spend the night in various apartments. In the morning, the couples depart differently. One couple has bonded amicably, another tenuously, and the third not at all. The next day, the men reconnect, and decide to try their luck again.
