1914年。第1次世界大戦が勃発し、ドイツの有名オペラ歌手だったニコラウスも一兵卒として戦地に出征する。その愛妻でやはりオペラ歌手であるアナは、自ら積極的に働き掛けてクリスマスイヴにコンサートを開き、戦場から呼び戻された夫とともに、皇太子の御前でアリアを熱唱することに。無事務めを終え、塹壕に戻ってきたニコラウスはそこでも兵士たちのために美しい歌声を披露するが、そこで奇跡のような事態が起こる。
