Lucid Dreams is an episodic film which the director recounts four of his own dreams: Don wants to repay his debt by arranging a fake wedding; Fan, a white collar, learns to let go of his ego after struggling with love and work; a writer named Tong reunites with her long-lost mother; a driving instructor, Chung, is inspired by four 'ghost ladies' and starts to believe again in his musical talent.

ICAC Investigator William Luk and JFIU Chief Inspector Lau Po-keung both hit a dead end in their investigation of a bribery case and a money laundering case. In the meantime, William Luk was suspended when model Eva Ng went to Inspector Kenny Ching of ICAC’s Internal Investigation Group L, to file a report against him for accepting a $12M bribe. Kung (Eric Tsang) and Kin's (Jacky Cheung) rivalry goes way back to the seventies when they fought over the same girl, who eventually became Kung's wife (Anita Yuen). Now they run competing phone stores right across from each other on Mongkok's busiest street, and stretch their minds trying to outdo each other with crazy promotions. There's absolutely no mixing with the enemy in these parts - until Kung and Kin's kids fall for each other! Further chaos breaks out when the landlord triples the rent of all the shop owners to force them out for redevelopment.

Handover year 1997 sees much drama for Joy (Gigi Leung), the chief financial officer of a big company. She struggles to keep her family life together, as her husband is forced to relocate to Singapore due to his British affiliation and her son is stricken with disease. Joy's best friend and assistant (played by Fiona Sit) is a young girl trying to figure out her dodgy boyfriend. Still, she tries to help but Joy plunges into deeper despair due to her family problems. One day, the torment becomes unbearable and Joy breaks down. Things look bleak for the both of them until a friend makes good on an old promise and brings them all within sight of happiness again.
