Storaro explains his zany theories about light and colour, and gives a potted history of lighting in the cinema. Sublime.

The film stays true to the original stage performance. For her efforts on film and stage, Tomlin received a Tony Award, and Funniest Actress in a Motion Picture in the American Comedy Awards.

1950年。第二次世界大戦の終結による満州国の崩壊と国共内戦の終結により、共産主義国である中華人民共和国の一都市となったハルビン駅の構内。5年間にわたるソビエト連邦での抑留を解かれ、中華人民共和国に送還された「戦犯」達がごった返す中で、列から外れた1人の男が洗面所で自殺を試みる。男は監視人の手により一命を取り留めるものの、薄れ行く意識の中で幼い日々の頃を思い出していた。この男こそ清朝最後の皇帝にして満州国の皇帝、「ラスト・エンペラー」と呼ばれた愛新覚羅溥儀その人であった。

One of his clients is murdered and Detective Sunday begins pumping him for details on his different clients, something he is reluctant to do considering the nature of his work. A liberal-thinking author watches his wife as she attempts to seduce his best friend at a dinner party. She ends up taking on another man as well, and the writer has an affair with the another dinner guest. Soon the three men and two women are entangled in a confusing series of partner-swapping sex sprees where everyone's morals are challenged in the wake of the sexual revolution.
