The Great Patriotic War. 1945 year. There are fights for the city on the Danube. The river is mined by the Germans, and this fetters the action of our troops. In addition, a city with a million people was left without food. And downstream are Soviet food barges. The command instructs the reconnaissance group a difficult and dangerous operation — to obtain from the enemy a map of the mined sections of the river, which requires penetrating into the city captured by the Germans.

Explosions are raging in one of the ports in the territory occupied by the German fascist invaders. An old and experienced military leader, Admiral Reinhardt, arrives to investigate these emergencies. Together with the head of the Gestapo, SS Standartenfuehrer Hübe, he takes all measures to suppress the activity of the partisans, raids and arrests, but all in vain. Underwater sabotage continues. A detachment of fighters with experience of submarine warfare is sent from Italy to fight the demolitions.

Engineer Stepan Mitin, having arrived in Kiev on business, accidentally gets to the performance "Ukrainian Ballet on Ice" and falls in love with the soloist Viktoriya Chaika. Delighted with the prima, Stepan doesn't notice that the draftsman Varya is working with him on the refrigerator project — the same girl to whom in the evenings he unsuccessfully tries to convey a bouquet of flowers with a note. The business trip ends — and Stepan, collecting in Primorsk, invites Varya to his plant. They agree to meet at the airport, but on the way, the ballet administrator intercepts the girl. Stepan flies away alone. One day, the Ukrainian Ballet on Ice comes to Primorsk. Stepan Mitin, the best refrigeration specialist, is asked to help create artificial ice. Stepan gladly accepts the offer and soon meets Viktoriya Chaika...

Finally Kotigoroschko enters the realm of the dragon...

Zaporozhets za Dunayem (Ukrainian: Запорожець за Дунаєм, translated as A Zaporozhian (Cossack) Beyond the Danube, also referred to as Cossacks in Exile) is a Ukrainian comic opera with spoken dialogue in three acts with music and libretto by the composer Semen Hulak-Artemovsky (1813–1873). The orchestration has subsequently been rewritten by composers such as Reinhold Glière and Heorhiy Maiboroda. This is one of the best-known Ukrainian comic operas depicting national themes.
