This film tells the story of a successful writer called Harry Block, played by Allen himself, who draws inspiration from people he knows in real-life, and from events that happened to him, sometimes causing these people to become alienated from him as a result.

Two employees of a reclusive millionaire, Micki the secretary and Max the chauffeur, decide to attend a society function to which their employer has been invited. In the course of the evening, Max and Micki establish new identities in the world of high society and, while rubbing shoulders with the elite, they uncover a scam that tests their sleuthing skills as much as their social skills.

A group of graduating students from a midwestern high school comes to New York City on a trip to celebrate the impending end of school. Karl Kinsky, an unbalanced tattoo artist, becomes obsessed with Maddy, a model he meets when he is hired to body-paint several women for a photo shoot, making the women look like they have large tattoos. As Kinsky grows more obsessed with Maddy, he becomes increasingly determined that Maddy should bear his "mark" -- forever.

Every hero has a weakness, and Sherlock Holmes' weakness was Moriarty. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson solve mysteries and search for Moriarty in 1970s New York City. The fact that Sherlock Holmes is a psychotic paranoid and Dr. Watson is a female psychiatrist fascinated by his case is almost beside the point.
