B級映画専門の音響効果音マンのジャックは、ホラー映画で使う音を求めて“風の音”を録音しに出かける。そこで車の川への転落事故を目撃した彼は、とっさに川に飛び込みサリーという女性を救うが、同乗していた次期大統領の有力候補は救えなかった。宿の部屋で事故の時に録音していた音を聞いていたジャックは、“銃声”の存在に気がつく。一方テレビでは、同じく偶然、現場に居合わせたというカメラマンが事故を語っていた。
