シリーズの主人公であるクルーゾー警部を長年演じ続けたＰ・セラーズの死後、別のキャラクターを立てて製作された作品。シリーズの正当な流れに属してはいるが、趣はまるで異なり、ちょっと間の抜けた刑事が快盗ピンク・パンサーを追跡するという構成になっている。セラーズの抜けた穴はあまりに大きく、それを埋める映画にはならなかった。唯一笑えるのは、保養地の温泉に、００７の疲れを癒すためにロジャー・ムーアがお忍びで来ているという設定で、何と本人がゲスト出演、主役の刑事と一緒に温泉につかっているという不思議な場面が展開されている。

またもルガシュ王国から宝石「ピンクの豹」が盗まれた! クルーゾーは“ファントム"ことチャールズ卿の仕業とにらみ勝手にロンドンへ飛ぶが、ドレフュスの指令で今度は中東へ。だが、クルーゾーが乗った飛行機が行方不明になってしまう。国民的英雄を悼むテレビ局は美人レポーターを派遣し、クルーゾーゆかりの人々を取材する。チャールズ卿やその妻におさまった元クルーゾー夫人のシモーヌ、助手のケイトー、部下のエルキュールらが思い出を語る。レポーターはクルーゾーの父が住むワイン畑を訪れるが……。
