The tale of five Uruguayan villagers who embark on a journey to see the ocean for the first time. They depart in a broken down freight truck, property of Rodríguez, a taciturn man who loves the sea. Their point of departure is a local bar, and at the last minute, an unknown man from the bar joins their adventure.

A woman's voice says she was wife to Renzo Franchi and Carlos Gardel (1890-1935), Argentina's great tango singer. People say she's crazy. Her story unfolds. Buenos Aires, 1933: Juana Romero, a seamstress who lives for the music of Gardel, dumps her boyfriend Gustavo for Renzo, a singer who looks like Gardel. She insists that his trio performs Gardel's tangos, which leads to Renzo recording a Ford commercial when Gardel himself is overbooked. The trio, with Joanna in tow, goes on an ill-fated tour of points north. The couple breaks up: she goes home and he tries to get to New York. Ernesto is a journalist in his 40's who comes from a generation which encountered much political persecution and exile; between the memories and unhealed wounds of his past, stands Ernesto. When his good friend Ricardo calls him one day and proposes to get together after 25 years, they decide to gather all the members of the “old gang” in order to revive those old feelings the best way they know how, through some good old rock n' roll. Amongst one of Ernesto's encounters is Ana, an old love who will bring a twisting unexpected turn into his life. The old gang is comprised of Ricardo's depressive, hypochondriac wife Ana and her socially-conscious former lover Ernesto, a journalist who left Ana years ago to pursue his political ideologies in post-revolutionary Cuba.

This portrays harmony and friction involving oriental and Mediterranean factions, both proficient at martial artistry, but one is dabbling in illicit dealings fronted by a nightclub.

Documentary filmed in Buenos Aires that shows the importance of tango for Argentines, with dance scenes, voiceovers and interviews with professionals but also with other anonymous characters who find their form of expression in this music. The film was shot at a time of tango revival around the world.

Later Nestor can't fix a broken lamp, but his son soon sorts it out. Nestor wants to act and invent money raising schemes whereas Sebastian yearns for a dad with a steady job. Nestor gets a role in an ad and pursues acting work. He seeks backing to market ping pong balls with world cup logos though the event has passed. The essence of the story revolves around how these conflicting aspirations can be reconciled.
