大正元年、太田勝造は呂鶴と駆け落ちし娘の桃若をもうけるが、呂鶴は追っ手に殺害されてしまう。勝造は桃若を連れて高知の遊郭「陽暉楼」を訪れる。二十年後、桃若は陽暉楼の売れっ子になっていた。勝造は大阪に珠子という女を囲っていたが、珠子は呂鶴に瓜二つの桃若に激しく嫉妬、陽暉楼に身を売ろうとするが女将に断られてしまう。
