８年前、ゴッサム・シティの希望のためバットマンは町を去り、その正体であるブルース・ウェインは今も隠遁生活を送る。新たに作られたデント法のもと、平和になったゴッサム・シティだが、そこへ凶暴な悪党ベインとその一味が現われ大混乱となる。ベインは実は同じ師匠を持つ、ブルースの兄弟子だった。執事アルフレッドに去られ、ベインの陰謀で財産を失いながらも、ブルースは再びバットマンとなってベインに立ち向かう。
