Loyalties are divided when civil war splits the Klingon Empire. 時は２３世紀。処女航海中のＢ型エンタープライズ号に救難信号が入り、かつてのエンタープライズの艦長、カーク提督の助力を得て、救助活動を開始。ところがアクシデントにより、艦の一部が消滅してしまう。７８年後、ピカード率いる最新鋭エンタープライズは救難信号を受け、現場に急行。そこで彼らが救出したのは、７８年前の事故の生存者ソランだった。ピカードは事故の調査を開始するが、突然クリンゴン帝国の攻撃船が現れる。
