As his ambitious younger sister heads off to college, Scott is still living with his exhausted ER nurse mother and spends his days smoking weed, hanging with the guys — Oscar, Igor and Richie — and secretly hooking up with his childhood friend Kelsey. But when his mother starts dating a loudmouth firefighter named Ray, it sets off a chain of events that will force Scott to grapple with his grief and take his first tentative steps toward moving forward in life.

A pampered dog named Trouble must learn to live in the real world while trying to escape from his former owner's greedy children and must learn how to survive on the big-city streets.

大西洋の小島の港町「スワロー・フォールズ」。イワシの缶詰で有名だが最近は売れなくなったため、島の住人が食べていた。フリントは発明家になることが夢だが発明品はことごとく失敗し周囲からは迷惑がられていた。ある日、水を食べ物に変えるマシン「FLDSMDFR」を開発した。稼働に大量の電力がいるので町の変電所で試したがマシンは空の彼方へ飛んでいき雲を吸い取り、大量のチーズバーガーを降らせたことで町の住人たちは大喜びした。その後、フリントは食べ物を降らせることで皆を大喜びさせ、町の人気者となっていくが、コントロールを乱していったマシンは巨大化した食べ物を生産し始めてしまう。
