Hanpeita Takeichi, a samurai, finds that he has travelled through time to modern-day Japan. He's taken in by an old man who runs a cram school, and begins to work as a teacher there.
This story follows the semi-autobiographical account of manga artist Ishinomori Shotaro, author of the original Kamen Rider, Cyborg 009, and Super Sentai.
Sasaki Ryohei (Yamada Ryosuke), the second son of the Sasaki family, is a high school student who lives in Shimane. He has just been chosen to be the vice captain of the youth soccer club. Setting his sights on participating in the prefectural championship, Ryohei practices every day with his buddies. One day, Ryohei has a severe headache and is brought to the hospital. Ryohei is diagnosed with an acute brain tumor from the test results. The family is told by the doctor that Ryohei will not live long. However, Ryohei musters the strength to say, "I will win. I will beat the illness. " Given a push by his words, the Sasakis try to stay positive.

ホラー映画への出演が続く女優・原瀬京子はこの日、関わった者たちの悲惨な死や行方不明が後を絶たない“呪われた家”をレポートするテレビの特番にゲスト出演した。そしてその夜、フィアンセ・将志の車に乗り家路につく京子。だがその道中、彼の車は首都高速で猫を轢いてしまう。将志は猫の死体を処理せずに車を発進させるが、その時、車内には不気味な存在が紛れ込んでいた。その刹那、車は壁に激突して大破。将志は意識不明の重体に陥り、妊娠していた京子も重傷を負って流産してしまうのだった…。
平安末期。平家が支配する闇の時代、源義経は山にこもり日々武術や妖術の鍛錬に明け暮れていた。五条大橋で平家武者を次々と切り捨てるその姿は鬼と恐れられ、近寄るものはほとんどいない。しかし、神から“鬼を退治せよ”との啓示を受けた弁慶は、義経を討つべく身の丈ほどもある刀を担いでのりこんでいった。
