Beyond This Place
Music
Taking drugs and intense cycling are the only things to which Cloud Rock La Belle has remained faithful throughout his life. Now his son, Kaleo, challenges his eccentric father to a bike trip. Cycling through the Pacific Northwest, Kaleo questions his father's search for truth and demands justification for his absence in his life. This film explores their failed father and son relationship and questions whether the hippie concept of freedom ultimately failed.
All the Way from Michigan Not Mars
A lyrical examination of indie songstress Rosie Thomas' quest for an expression of truth, combining songs of plaintive melancholy with sharp-witted banter and Sheila, her bizarre stand-up alter ego. Using intimate live performances with fellow songwriters Sufjan Stevens and Denison Witmer as a pathway, Mars is a meditative exploration of Thomas' unique brand of performance.

Danielson: A Family Movie (or, Make a Joyful Noise Here)
Self
"Danielson: a Family movie" is a documentary about unbridled creativity vs. accessibility, Christian faith vs. popular culture, underground music vs. survival, and family vs. individuality. The film follows Daniel Smith, an eccentric musician and visual artist, as he leads his four siblings and best friend to indie rock stardom, eventually facing the struggle to become viable as a solo act. Along the way he mentors an unknown singer-songwriter named Sufjan Stevens whose own subsequent success stands in stark contrast to the music world's uneasy reception of Danielson just a few years prior. Makes use of collage, direct cinema and animation. Written by Creative Arson
