The movie begins with Gan Wei, a novelist who has been grappling with writer’s block for several years. Yet, a book written under her name – The Zodiac Mystery – appears in markets. Even more strangely, the people in the book bear the names of her childhood friends and experience situations that really happened to them. What’s worse is that the book writes of a mistake that the friends have kept secret for years. As her other friends turn on her and the events of the novel begin to invade reality, only Tong Dawei’s character stands by Gan Wei…

In the fictional Shama Town in Northwest China, legend has it that that robbers buried many hidden treasures among the town. Tang Gaopeng, the town leader, then decides to promote Shama Town as a bandit-themed tourist destination. Tang Gaopeng's plan doesn't go to well with the town attracting nearly zero tourists, but a group of international thieves do show up intent on finding the buried treasures ...

The film takes place in 2046. The Chinese government has created the first cybernetic organism, K1, programmed with sophisticated social conscience, ideal for police applications. Initially deployed in a remote village for testing, K1, is loved by the villagers, and performs all duties and expectations flawlessly, except one. Su Mei, a fellow police officer falls in love with K1, creating a problem as cyborgs are not programmed to feel such feelings. Meanwhile, another cyborg, K88, disappears after suffering a neural meltdown, and K1 is called in to hunt down the renegade robot....
