タイジは幼いころから母の光子が好きで、手間暇かけて作ってくれる混ぜご飯が大好物だった。だが一方、光子は情緒不安定で、タイジの行動にイラつき、つい手を上げてしまう。ある日、夫との離婚問題が浮上し、光子は条件が不利にならないようにタイジを児童保護施設に入れる。1年後、離婚が成立し、光子はタイジとその姉を連れて別の家に引っ越すが情緒不安定は治らず、17歳になったタイジは家を出ることを決意する。

Coffee-shop waitress Kanako, divorced with a young son, finds herself obliged to honour a rash promise she made to a long-time customer. He always wanted to be buried in the land rather than a cemetery, so that his body would be 'useful' - and now he's dead. Kanako and her boy enlist the help of a friendly florist with a small truck, steal the corpse, and head for the mountains.
