2065年。ヘンとジュニアの夫婦は、ジュニアの家系が代々受け継いできた人里離れた土地で静かに農業を営んでいた。ある日、そこへテランスという見知らぬ男が訪れてくる。テランスはジュニアが宇宙への移住要員候補に選ばれたことを告げ、夫婦を驚かせる。テランスの説明では選ばれたのはあくまでジュニアのみで、ジュニアが宇宙に行っている間は、彼の代わりとなる人物をヘンのもとに置くという。この提案をきっかけに、ヘンとジュニアの静かな生活は大きく変化する。
