Merry soldiers arrive in the sleepy Transdanubian town. The cynical woman-hunter, Ferdinándy, learns to know doctor Barlay's beautiful wife at a carnival. She lives a happy married life, and the attentions of the lieutenant are all in vain.

Solicitor Lukács is well known for his expertise in divorce. He lets a room and while he is away, Csahos, his articled clerk, in charge of business affairs in the absence of the solicitor, leaves almost all of the flat to Székely Klári, a pretty university student. Lukács, while driving his car to Siófok, accidentally bumps into his wife and their friend, Bognár Miklós. Misunderstanding the situation, he asks for a divorce.
Éva, an orphaned mine heiress, is on the verge of gaining her inheritance from Count Rudolf. In order to retain control, Rudolf aims to provoke a worker's revolt against her. Éva then meets Jura, one of the miners, who claims he was raised from birth within the mine by a mysterious witch named Anna.
