In the 1990s, many young women from Southeast Asia, carrying their hopes and dreams, were married off to this faraway island of riches... Through a two-part narrative, the film contrasts the past and the present of Taiwanese society. Can these immigrant women across different eras break free from their predicaments in this foreign land to rediscover themselves? Can they as well as the locals, live truly free lives?

In a heated fight over questions of promiscuity, a terrible misunderstanding leaves two best friends, 'sisters' estranged for many years. A decade later, the two 'sisters' are reunited by a tragic event. The 'sisters' reminisce over the past while talking about the future. Though they are still very fond of each other, both have changed and a palpable tension can be felt over dreams unrealized and disappointments in life. Knowing their days together are numbered, the pair set out on a few adventures hoping to gain lost opportunities and make happy memories. Along the way, they make important discoveries about life, love, each other, friendship, and family. Promises are kept and a long lost dream comes true.

When they finally reach the spot of hidden cypress, Ah De is dumbfounded by what he sees. Xin Lan also feels that, as a patrol officer, she must follow the protocol and stop Ah-de’s illegal activities. The wood thief that stalks them also shows up, trying to take the cypress from them. With all of them fighting one another, how will this journey end?

　　台湾中部の山岳地帯に住む誇り高き狩猟民族・セデック族。その一集落を統べる頭目の息子モーナ・ルダオは村の内外に勇名をとどろかせていた。1895年、日清戦争で清が敗れると、彼らの暮らす山奥にも日本の統治が広がり、平穏な生活は奪われていく。それから35年、頭目となったモーナは依然として日々を耐え抜いていた。そんな中、日本人警察官とセデック族の一人が衝突したことをきっかけに、長らく押さえ込まれてきた住民たちが立ち上がり…。
