父が待つアメリカへの出発を一週間後に控えた女子大生の新井直美。憧れの永井先輩に誘われホテルへ向かった直美だったが、直美の伯父を名乗る男が飛び込んできて永井を追い出してしまう。男は直美の父の元秘書に雇われた辻山秀一という名の私立探偵で、彼女を出発まで守ることになっていた。ある日、辻山の元妻である幸子が彼のアパートに転がり込んできた。岡崎組の跡取りである和也がホテルで刺殺され、自分が容疑者として疑われているのだという。直美は辻山に、一緒に犯人を捜そうと言い出す。
