第1次世界大戦終結直前の1918年。敗戦国ドイツに多額の損害賠償金を強いるヴェルサイユ条約の締結のため、アメリカ政府のひとりの高官が、年の離れた若くて美しい妻、そして、金髪を長く伸ばし、まるで少女と見まがうような美しい少年を伴って、フランスへとやって来る。息子の養育を妻にすっかり任せ、父親が国際会議に忙しく飛び回っている間に、少年は、教会への投石など、不可解で反抗的な態度をどんどん募らせていく。

In the early morning of April 9th 1940, the Danish army is alerted. The Germans have crossed the border; Denmark is at war against Europe's strongest army. In Southern Jutland, Danish bicycle and motorcycle companies are ordered out to, against all odds, hold back the forces until the Danish reinforcements can be mobilized. In the fatal hours, we follow second lieutenant Sand and his bicycle company – they will be the first Danish soldiers to meet the enemy in combat on April 9th 1940.

At the time seen as an honor killing the suspect has been acquitted. While Asya and her students investigate and find various aspects of this murder, they fight with their own demons as well as those of Turkish society.
