1858年、南北戦争前夜のアメリカ南部。鎖につながれ、馬車で運ばれる途中だった黒人奴隷のジャンゴは、賞金稼ぎのシュルツの手によって自由の身となり、お尋ね者たちを追う彼と行動をともにすることに。やがて2人は奴隷市場で互いに生き別れとなったジャンゴの愛妻ブルームヒルダを救出すべく、極悪非道な白人農園領主のキャンディと、彼にかしずく老獪な奴隷頭のスティーヴンのもとへ奴隷商人を装っていざ乗り込むの。

1942年、ロサンゼルス上空で発光する謎の飛行物体25機を空軍のレーダーがとらえる。その後もブエノスアイレスやソウル、ロンドンでも未知の飛行体が目撃されたが、その真相は不明だった。そして2011年、これまで世界各国で確認されたUFO事件を通して人類を監視してきたエイリアンたちがついに侵略を開始し、ロサンゼルスで海兵隊と市街戦を繰り広げる。

ソマリア沖で起きた海賊によるシージャック解決の仕事を受けたバーニー・ロス率いる傭兵部隊「エクスペンダブルズ」は、身代金を用いた交渉を行うもメンバーの一人であるガンナー・ヤンセンの暴走により、激しい銃撃戦を展開することになる。海賊の殲滅には成功するも薬物依存症に陥っていたヤンセンをロスはチームから放逐することを決める。 数日後、チームのマネージャーであるツールから仕事の依頼を伝えられたロスは会合場所でチャーチという謎の男から南アメリカの小国、ヴィレーナの独裁者であるガルザ将軍の排除を依頼される。ロスはメンバーの一人であるリー・クリスマスと共に同国に偵察に赴く

After being denied a promotion at the university where she teaches, Doctor Lily Penleric, a brilliant musicologist, impulsively visits her sister, who runs a struggling rural school in Appalachia. There she stumbles upon the discovery of her life - a treasure trove of ancient Scots-Irish ballads, songs that have been handed down from generation to generation, preserved intact by the seclusion of the mountains. With the goal of securing her promotion, Lily ventures into the most isolated areas of the mountains to collect the songs and finds herself increasingly enchanted.
