ある夜、ニューヨーク市警のラルフは、動物園で子どもをライオンのおりに投げ捨て死亡させた女性を逮捕する。彼女は何かにとり憑かれたかのように震え、ドアーズの曲を唱え続けていた。また別の夜に逮捕した妻に暴力を振るう男も、何かにとり憑かれたかのような狂気に触れ暴れていた。ある日、神父のジョーがラルフのもとを訪ね、“霊感”を捜査に使えと助言する。彼は現場に残された言葉から、悪霊の存在を強く感じるようになる。
