遠い昔、はるかかなたの銀河系で…。銀河共和国と対立するようになった通商連合が銀河の重要な交易ルートである惑星ナブーを封鎖する事件が起き、共和国から２人のジェダイ騎士、クワイ＝ガン・ジンとその弟子オビ＝ワンがナブーに派遣される。命を狙われた２人は、ナブーの女王アミダラを連れて星をあとにする。やがて一行はやむをえず、砂漠の惑星タトゥイーンに到着するが、強いフォース（理力）を持つ９歳の少年アナキンと出会う。
