1987年、英国ルートンにある小さな町。パキスタンから移民してきた両親、マリクとヌールと暮らす彼らの長男ジェベドは、一帯で根強いマイノリティーへの偏見や、保守的な価値観に固執する父親マリクとの確執に悩む。そんなジェベドは同級生から影響を受け、人気歌手スプリングスティーンのファンとなり、自分自身の言葉で“詩”を書いて残し始める。ジェベドの詩は注目を集めだすが、彼とマリクの関係は複雑になっていき……。
