ある事件を解決した元記者のミカエルと女性調査員リスベットのコンビだが、ミカエルが雑誌“ミレニアム”の編集部に復帰したこともあり、コンビは自然と解消した。1年後、少女売春組織を追う記事を準備していた記者2人が殺される事件が起き、リスベットの指紋がついた拳銃が犯行現場に残されていたことから、彼女は指名手配されてしまう。ミカエルが独自に真相を調べる一方、リスベットは謎の大男ニーダーマンに命を狙われる。
