The Pucchini opera "Turandot" will be shown completely new at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. The new production by the Spanish video artist Franc Aleu refers with a wink to the history of the Catalan institution: 20 years ago, this very opera was resumed there after a fire in 1994 severely damaged the theater.

Christine Goerke has wowed audiences as Turandot, the icy princess at the heart of Puccini’s grand final masterpiece. In this performance from the 2019–20 Live in HD season, Goerke stars alongside tenor Yusif Eyvazov (as Calàf) and soprano Eleonora Buratto (as Liù) in Franco Zeffirelli’s classic staging, which dazzles with its opulent visions of mythic China. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin is on the podium, drawing a vivid array of musical colors from the incomparable Met Orchestra and Chorus.

Franco Zeffirelli’s golden production stars the great dramatic soprano Nina Stemme as Turandot, the icy Chinese princess who has renounced all men. Marco Berti is Calàf, the unknown prince who solves Turandot’s riddles and wins her love. Anita Hartig sings Liù, the faithful slave girl who gives her life to save Calàf, and Alexander Tsymbalyuk is Timur. Paolo Carignani conducts.

Andrei Serban's spectacular and thrilling 1984 production of Puccini's final and grandest opera has long been a classic at the Royal Opera House. First filmed for BBC TV in the 80s, this new recording – of its fifteenth revival – is in stunning HD and makes this famous production available for the first time on DVD and Blu-ray. The release will rightfully take its place alongside the outstanding Royal Opera Puccini DVDs of La Bohème, Tosca (on EMI) and Trittico. American Lise Lindstrom is one of the very few contemporary Turandots who can genuinely sing this ‘killer’ role, and is supported by a touching Liù from Japanese soprano Eri Nakamura and an unashamedly Italianite Calaf from Marco Berti. The young Hungarian conductor Henrik Nánási directs the large orchestra and all-important chorus.

来日を目前にして急逝してしまったテノール、サルヴァトーレ・リチートラの素晴らしい歌が聴ける『トゥーランドット』が、鮮明映像で登場。2010年夏のアレーナ・ディ・ヴェローナでの上演のライヴ収録です。リチートラはデビューして間もなくムーティによってスカラ座で重用され世界的大成功を収めたのでベテランのような気がしますが、1968年生まれ、まさにこれから全盛期を迎えんとしていたところ。惜しんでも惜しみきれない急死です。そのリチートラが近年得意にしていたのが『トゥーランドット』のカラフ。情熱的で力強く、しかも声に甘さがあって人を惹きつける魅力のあるリチートラのカラフは、理想的と言ってよいでしょう。しばしば「パヴァロッティの再来」と言われるリチートラ、しかし有名なアリア『誰も寝てはならない』は、パヴァロッティの豪快な歌いっぷりとはまた違った繊細さも感じられるもの。大喝采に応えてアンコールするリチートラの心意気には、思わず涙がこみ上げて来そうになります。 トゥーランドット役は、今日この役のスペシャリストとして称讃されているマリア・グレギーナ。相変わらずのド迫力な声でアレーナの大空間を満たしています。リューは、ポーランド国立歌劇場、ミラノ・スカラ座、新国立劇場と三度日本で『オテロ』のデズデーモナを歌って大評判となったグルジアのソプラノ、タマール・イヴェーリ。密度の濃い美声で切々とリューの悲しみを歌い上げています。ティムールはブラジルのバス、ルイス＝オクタヴィオ・ファリア。知名度は低いものの、驚くほど立派な声の持ち主です。 指揮は、ベテランのイタリア・オペラ指揮者として世界中を駆け回っているジュリアーノ・カレッラ。巨大なアレーナでは指揮者の技量が問われますが、野外オペラ公演とは思えないほどしっかりとした音楽にまとめているのはさすが。

In this Live in HD production, Maria Guleghina takes on the title role and Marcello Giordani is Calaf, the unknown prince. Marina Poplavskaya and Samuel Ramey co-star, and Andris Nelsons conducts in his Met debut.

From the world famous Arena of Verona, an international cast perform one of Puccini's best loved operas. The cruel Princess Turandot, ruler of China, will only wed a prince who can answer correctly her three riddles. Those who fail are executed. Prince Calaf, son of the exiled king of Tartary, falls in love with Turandot as soon as he sets eyes on her, and despite the protestations of his friends and family sets out to pass her test.

Two half brothers, one a pilot, the other a repairman at the plane factory of their father, are in a disagreement due to the envy of the younger brother, son of the first wife of their father. Then both brothers fall in love with the same woman; this causes more conflict between the two, making worse an already tense situation.
