Julius, who devours comic books and vampire stories, has a lively imagination. Julius meets Arnold Cautious, who lives in an abandoned house on the outskirts of town and introduces himself as a degenerated, strawberry juice-drinking vampire. Julius and Cautious become friends. Together they try to make the Lucky Stone, the recipe for which is in Cautious' grandmother's secret recipe book. Julius wants to give the stone to his estranged parents so they can rediscover their common happiness. Julius and Arnold's laboratory attempts to make the Lucky Stone falter badly time and time again, but they stubbornly pursue their quest for happiness.

Kip is an intelligent and sensitive boy with a great passion for anthropology, thanks to his mother who is studying the glacier mummy Ötzi, displayed in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano. When a tragic accident changes Kip’s life, he has to leave Bolzano and his best friends. At the bar of her hotel she meets Jaakko, a Finnish DJ who is in Vilnius for a gig. Caroline lets him understand that she doesn’t speak English, and Jaakko doesn’t speak French. サチエ（小林聡美）はフィンランドの都市、ヘルシンキで「かもめ食堂」という名の日本食の小さな店を営んでいる。ある日食堂にやってきた日本かぶれの青年に「ガッチャマンの歌の歌詞」を質問されるが、思い出せず悶々としていると、町の書店で背の高い日本人女性ミドリ（片桐はいり）を見かける。もしや、と思い試しに「ガッチャマンの歌詞を教えて下さい!」と話しかけると、見事に全歌詞を書き上げる。旅をしようと世界地図の前で目をつぶり、指した所がフィンランドだった…というミドリに「何かを感じた」サチエは、彼女を家に招き入れ、やがて食堂で働いてもらうことに。 一方、マサコ（もたいまさこ）は両親の介護という人生の大役を務め終え、息抜きにフィンランドにたどり着いたものの、手違いで荷物が紛失してしまう。航空会社が荷物を探す間にかもめ食堂へとたどりつく。 生い立ちも性格も年齢も違う3人の女性が、奇妙な巡り合わせでかもめ食堂に集まった…。

In the 1930s, middle-aged museum curator Tauno Saarinen yearns for a young beautiful maid and writes a lengthy confession about his feelings which he gives his wife Elisabet to read. Elisabet shows the writings to her husband's sister Naimi, an art critic who tries to reconcile with her ex-husband despite a spiteful mother-in-law. Meanwhile, things gets worse between Tauno and Elisabet when the young maid, seduced by Tauno, becomes pregnant. Based on a novel by Helvi Hämäläinen, first published in 1941 but partly censored until 1995 because allegedly based on true incidents involving well-known people.

In the freer climate of the 1990s, some young women from Estonia are enticed into Finland to work as dancers and entertainers. Many, like 18 years old Irma, find themselves doing striptease.
