After losing his two younger brothers on a mountain climbing expedition, Vijay swears to his sorrowing mother that he will never undertake any expedition again. When he hears of a plane crash deep in the mountains of the Himalays, he initially refuses to even consider going there to look for the survivors, but the tears of a mother, Geeta, whose two children were abroad that plane, moves him and his mother, and he agrees to look for the children, little knowing that others are on the way to the crash site, with different motives.

Kalyani lives in a small tenement with three sons, Vijay, Nandu, and Bhola, all of whom are unemployed, slackers and trouble-makers. One of his patients is Ram (Raaj Kumar), who is critically ill, and has to be operated upon. Things progress well, until Dharmesh meets Ram's wife - none other than Sita. Dharmesh now has to battle with his conscience, and his medical ethics to save Ram or to let him pass away, so that he can marry Sita.

It is based on the life of Bhagat Singh. The music was composed by Prem Dhawan, with several songs being penned by freedom fighter Ram Prasad Bismil.

Raj Kumar is a wealthy businessman and dislikes everything ugly. When his wife, Kamla, becomes pregnant and gives birth to an ugly son, he asks the attending Dr. Mathur to inform his wife that their child was still-born. But misfortune follows them, as the child, who is named Pyare, accidentally burns their dwelling down, killing Naseeban. Rahmat then re-locates to his village when he teaches Pyare the skills required to play musical instruments and sing. Years later, Rahmat passes away, and informs Pyare that he is really a Hindu. Dr. Mathur fills the rest of the blanks for Pyare, and arranges a song and dance play and hopes that Raj will overcome his dislike for his now-grown son.

Dr. Arun lives with his brother, Madhu; dad Judge Ramkrishan; and mom Kamla in a palatial house. He decides to help the poor and the needy and in order to do this he re-locates to a small town, where he meets with a young nurse named Sumati and both fall in love with each other. Sumati lives with her mom, Laxmi, and has no father. When Kamla starts looking for a prospective bride for Arun, he informs her that he has given his heart to Sumati. Ramkrishan sends for Laxmi, who gladly accepts the invitation. After her meeting, Arun inquires about the results with his mom and dad, and is told to forget about Sumati and marry someone else. When Arun asks for a reason behind their refusal, they refuse to divulge any information. The question remains, why did his parents turn down Sumati's mom, and what exactly happened during that meeting with her?

When Pratap learns that his fiancee is in love with his younger brother, Gopal, he steps aside and arranges for them to get married. However, he soon learns Gopal is in love with someone else.

Vasanti joins them and Geeta suspects that there is something on between Raj and Vasanti and makes Vasanti leave the house.

But Nirmala's aunt is jealous to see her happiness and hence wants to marry her off to an uneducated villagers. The dispute turns big and Nirmala leaves her home.
