ジョージアとアブハジアの間で起こった独立をめぐる紛争の真っ只中、境界線上の川にできた小さな中洲に小屋を建て孫娘と共にとうもろこしを育て始めたアブハズ人の老人。銃弾が飛び交う土地で伝統を守りながら淡々と畑を育み続ける老人とそれに従う孫娘の姿が、セリフを極力回避した独特の映像表現で語られてゆく。やがて収穫が近づく頃、負傷した若いジョージア兵が中洲に流れ着いたことから、歯車が少しずつ狂い始める・・・。

A full-blooded, interesting life has long eluded the house where a mother, father, son and daughter live. Trivial household matters, conversation at dinner about duty — that's all that connects them. The situation changes when it becomes known that the family inherited the village house, and that it will probably be necessary to enter into a struggle with the joint heirs.
