ある私立の名門女子学院の放課後、甘川歌江と殿宮アイ子の仲が、同級生の間で噂になっていた。歌江は並はずれた体格から、“火星さん”という仇名を付けられ、みんなから疎外されていた。そんな歌江をアイ子は優しく労り、いつしか二人は誰も入り込むことのできない深い関係になっていた。二人の通学する学院の校長森栖礼造は、書記の川村や英語教師のトラ子と共謀して不正行為をおこない、歌江の弱みにつけ込んで処女をむさぼろうとする偽善者だった。あるとき歌江は森栖に犯され妊娠してしまう。それを知ったアイ子は血相を変え、歌江に詰寄るのだった。二人は傷つき、醜い大人の世界を知った。やがて二人は森栖ばかりでなく川村、トラ子、そして病身の妻を虐待し、芸者遊びに興じるアイ子の父・愛四郎らへの復讐心をかりたてていった。歌江ら卒業生の主催する謝恩パーティの行なわれたその夜、学院で火災がおこり、焼け跡から黒焦げの死体が発見される。そして森栖を呪った遺書が見つかったことなどから、その遺体は歌江と断定される。森栖は責任を追求されるのを恐れ、逃げまわる。歌江の死後、川村とトラ子が奇怪な死を遂げた。一方アイ子は、泥酔しきった愛四郎の前に現われ、そんな姿を罵り、貪欲な欲望をあざ笑うのだった。赤く染まる荒涼とした埋め立て地を、夢遊病者のように歩く森栖。突然二つの影が現われた。歌江とアイ子だった。火災現場から発見された遺体は歌江ではなかった。ただ茫然とする森栖の前で、二人は一体となり見る見る内に炎に包まれていった。炎と煙りに包まれた歌江とアイ子の前で、獣のように叫び狂乱する森栖の無惨な姿があった。地獄絵さながらのその光景の中で、黒い煙が大空に充満し二つの花芯は燃えつき、ひたむきな少女の心を犠牲にしたすべての復讐が終わった。

Teenage cousins Masao and Tamiko fall in love when she comes to his riverside brewery house to take care of his sickly mother. Family objections ensue as Tamiko is older than Masao, and the two cannot marry in peace.

Replete with film noir style, "Underworld Beauty" is one of Suzuki's best nods to the American gangster genre.
