Ekke Hämäläinen

Directed by Edvin Laine and Viktor Tregubovich, Trust (1976) is a Finnish-Soviet historical drama film that follows the relations between Finland and the Soviet Union. In December 1917, the Finnish delegation, composed of Chairman of the Senate Finance Department P.E. Svinhufvud (Vilho Siivola), Senator Carl Enckell (Yrjö Tähtelä) and State Secretary Gustaf Idman (Yrjö Paulo) arrive in St. Petersburg to meet V.I. Lenin (Kirill Lavrov) to gain recognition for the country's independence.

Täällä Pohjantähden alla is based on the book with the same title. It is a story of the little village. The movie starts in the 1890's and it ends to the Finnish civil war in 1918. Story concentrates around a tenant farmer family, although it gives us a good look at the society at whole. While the class struggle depends, people of the village are driven to bloody civil war.

An author writes a book about witch persecution and is accused of blasphemy. Maunu Kurkvaara's film has been inspired by the blasphemy trial against the author Hannu Salamaa and Markku Lahtela's novel. The author (Pekka Haukinen) has written a historical novel about witch hunts and has been charged with blasphemy.

Two Finnish PI:s are hunted by a gang specialized to counterfeit banknotes from Malaga to Finland and Mallorca and back. The counterfeit money printing plates are desperately searched by the gang and our heroes try to hide from them by travelling to Mallorca, where some of the local hoods try to kill them and retake the missing plates.

For six hundred years Sweden had controlled most of Finland until the war with Russia that ended in 1809, when Finland became a Grand Duchy of the Russian Czar. This period drama is set during that early 19th-century war and focuses on one of its heroes, Sven Tuuva. Sven is a decent yet not too brilliant soldier, and his exploits are partly balanced here by the charms of a compatriot.

Evakko is a portrayal of Soviet-Finnish winter war of 1939/40 and the associated evacuations in different parts of the country. It tells the story of a Karelian family along with their whole village who were forced to leave their homes because of the war. The film has a surprisingly perky tone for the subject matter.

Tyttö tuli taloon (1956) is a comedy film directed by Veikko Itkonen and written by Roy (Tapio Vilpponen). The film parodies the production methods of Finnish cinema of the time. Hitchhiking girls Eila (Heidi Krohn) and Tilly (Maija Karhi) end up at screenwriter Saku's (Joel Rinne) summer house by mistake, thinking it's their cousin's.

It is the summer of 1941. An eastern-Finnish machine gun company receives an order to turn in their surplus equipment. The company is transferred to the front lines. The next morning the soldiers wake to the sound of guns – the war has begun.

Directed by Hannu Leminen, Onnaiset (1954) is a romantic drama set in the early 20th century. The film is built around the music of Oskar Merikanto and is an independent sequel to the film Summer Night Waltz. Pianist Lauri Alango (Leif Wager) and his wife Annina (Eeva-Kaarina Volanen) 's fortune is cracked when opera diva Delia Rosati (Maaria Eira) attracts Lauri to accompany her on tour.

Olli Suominen goes through the usual troubles of a teenager. After being in the war he is trying to find his place in the society. And the relations with his family is in turmoil. He also finds the sweet life in restaurants more exhilarating than being in the school and reading books for the forthcoming student exams.
