高校生のトリップは、故郷の田舎町を出ることを夢見て、おんぼろトラックをこつこつ修理していた。一方、郊外では大企業による強引な石油採掘が進められており、作業の中で地下水脈で暮らす未知の巨大生物が地上に押し出されてしまう。そのうち1匹が逃げ出し、騒動を起こしながらトリップのトラックに逃げ込むことに。やがてその生物に気付いたトリップは驚きながらもそれを“クリーチ”と名付け、いつしか友情を育む。
