Mrs. Belkin's Daughter
Miniature Dwyer is named after her mother, who was making miniature doll houses when Minnie was born. Minnie, too, has built doll houses for years, and when she learns that she is terminally ill, she and her husband Teddy begin planning their joint suicide. She makes sure that her dolls are placed with people who will appreciate and cherish them. The couple refuse to allow their grief-stricken daughter or the solicitous social worker or anyone else to forestall the death they are determined is right for them

野ネズミのミセス・ブリスビーは、子供たちとともに牧場に暮らしていたが、種まきの時期が近付いたため引っ越しを考えていた。ところが息子のティモシーが肺炎になり、最低3週間は安静が必要になると診断される。しかし、人間たちが種まきをはじめたため、困ったミセス・ブリスビーが大フクロウと、カラスのジェレミーに相談したところ、薔薇の茂みの下に暮らす、あるクマネズミの集落を訪れ、そこに暮らすニコデムスに聞いてみてはどうかと尋ねてみた。その集落は、ミセス・ブリスビーの夫であるジョナサン・ブリスビーやその知人である医者ミスター・エイジスの故郷でもあったが、同時に国立保健医学研究所で実験を受けたネズミたちの集落でもあった。

A married teenager sets out to find his long-lost brother and sister years after all three had been placed with different families following their abandonment by their migrant worker parents. Luckily, he finds a compassionate social worker who, at first reluctantly, decides to help him cut through the bureaucratic red tape.
