トム（チャーリー・シーン）の農場にミステリアス・サークルが出現。そのニュースを追うのはキャスターのシンディ（アンナ・ファリス）。彼女は友人の通夜で、1本のビデオを手にする。それは呪いのビデオだった。

アラスカ・ナイトミュート。いまの時期は24時間太陽が沈まないこの町で17歳の少女の変死体が発見された。翌日、ロス警察のウィル・ドーマーが相棒のハップとともに応援にやって来る。ウィルは今までの豊富な経験を駆使し、犯人をおびき出す方法を思いつく。思惑通り海辺の小屋に犯人が姿を現わす。しかし、深い霧に犯人を見失ったウィルは誤って相棒を射殺してしまう。自分が射殺した事実を地元警察に告白しそびれたウィルは白夜も手伝って不眠症に陥る。不眠が続いて3日目の早朝、ウィルのもとに少女殺しの犯人から電話がかかってくる…。
