娘を亡くしたショックから立ち直れない精神分析医ピーターのもとに、エリザベスという少女が訪れて1枚のメモを置いていく。そのメモを調べるうちに、これまで診てきた患者の全てが1987年7月12日に自分の故郷で発生した列車事故の死亡者であったと判明する。亡霊と対面していたことに驚きながらも故郷へと戻って、事故にまつわる事実を追い求めていくピーター。やがて、その事故に自身が関わっていたことがわかる。
