1958年の西ドイツ・フランクフルト。第2次世界大戦の終結から10年以上が経過し、復興後の西ドイツではナチスドイツの行いについての認識が薄れていた。そんな中、アウシュビッツ強制収容所にいたナチスの親衛隊員が、規約に違反して教師をしていることがわかる。検察官のヨハンらは、さまざまな圧力を受けながらも、アウシュビッツで起きたことを暴いていく。
