1945年1月、第2次世界大戦末期のヨーロッパ戦線。ドイツ軍からアルザス地方を奪還すべく、アメリカ軍の歩兵連隊にフランス軍の落下傘連隊が合流。彼ら落下傘連隊は主に志願兵や新兵たちから成る部隊で、先の戦いで多くの兵力を失っていたが、エナック伍長を中心に結束し、厳しい冬の寒さとも戦いながら森の中を進軍。やがて彼らは、ひとりのドイツ兵を捕虜にするが、なんと彼の正体は、エナックの実の弟のロドルフだった。
