お調子者な性格の大原、ひたすらマスコミに憧れ「いい女にいい車」を手に入れることを夢見る立川、学生でありながらもライターとして活躍、大原に好意を抱く毬子、要領の良さと親のコネで超大手代理店の内々定をとっている北町の4人。それぞれが就職活動を行う中で、夢や希望、悩み、戸惑いを感じながら自分の道を切り開いていく。

コピーライターの新谷公平は妻の浮気現場に鉢合わせし、相手の男・如月十津夫と取っ組み合いの末、マンションの3階から転落、二人とも重傷を負い「私立某大学病院」に入院する。その結果、新谷は全治1ヶ月の重症を負い、しかもベッドは如月と隣同士に。さらに二人の担当医は新人研修医・吉川みどり。彼女は救急患者が大の苦手で点滴すらもさせない始末だった。
